Studies on the digestive function of Rehmanniae Radixes Produced by Different Processe

Abstract
Rehmanniae Radix preparata comes to be known that causes dyspepsia. The purpose of this study is to recognize the influence on the digestive function when Rehmanniae Radix preparata produced through different processes.
The rats are divided 4 groups[dosed saline, dosed Rehmanniae Radix(dried), dosed Rehmanniae Radix preparata steamed 9 times, or dosed Rehmanniae Radix preparata steamed 9 times and added with Crataegi Frutus at final processing step]. By checking intake, output, and change in body weight, their digestive rates were figured. The results were such as the followings :
1. All the groups dosed Rehmanniae Radix(dried), Remanniae Radix preparata(steamed 9 times), and Rehmanniae Radix preparata (steamed 9 times and added with Cretaegi Fructus at final step) have no influence on the amount of diet and feces.
2. Both groups dosed Rehmanniae Radix preparata (steamed 9 times) and Rehmanniae Radix preparata (stream 9 times and added with Crataegi Fructus at final step) have no influence on the changes in body weight, but the group dosed Rehmanniae Radix (dried) reduces weight gain compared with others.
3. The group dosed Rehmanniae Radix(dried) shows decreased digestive rate of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates compared with others.
4. The group dosed Rehmanniae Radix preparata(steam 9 times) has no influence on the digestive rate of fats, but shows decreased digestive rate of proteins and carbohydrates. Compared with the other group dosed Rehmanniae Radix(dried), the group shows increased digestive rate of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
5. The group dosed Rehmanniae Radix preparata (steamed 9 times and added with Crataegi Fructus at final processing step) has no influence on the digestive rate of fats and proteins, but shows decreased digestive rate of carbohydrates. Compared with the other group dosed Rehmanniae Radix preparata(steamed 9 times), the group shows increased digestive rate of proteins and carbohydrates.
These results suggests that Rehmanniae Radix preparata (steamed 9 times) is more digestive than Rehmanniae Radix(dried). Also Rehmanniae Radix preparata (steam 9 times and added with Crataegi Fructus at final step) is more digestive than Rehmanniae Radix preparata(steam 9 times) especially for proteins and carbohydrates.
